drawing babies - altered - Sam version 2 :)

Following some good advice I've lightened his nostrils from the last post - I think it's much better now. Do you think so?

Sam, 5 months old, mechanical pencil in moleskine sketchbook, Vivien Blackburn

Crit from friends with a clear fresh eye is so useful.

Lovely portrait, Vivien, and I agree with you lightening the nostrils has improved the sketch, it makes you focus on his beautiful little mouth.
I only ever sketched my children when they were older and i was at college and needed the life drawing practice, but it's a great thing to do and i've kept all of my sketch books and quick sketches, much to their disgust.
But i do have a few quick sketches of my first GD when she was about a year old, she's now 17, and there's no comparison to a photograph.

I guess it now puts all the emphasis on those beautiful eyes. I think both versions are stunning, Vivien. What a beautiful baby and what a beautiful drawing.

It's very easy to embarass kids isn't it Sharon!

I painted my youngest daughter when doing my degree - what a minefield!!!! not easy to please daughter and tutors!

Hi Robyn - thanks :)
